Although most MRI exams don’t require preparation, there are some steps to follow that will make your experience more efficient and timely. Our patient service team will inform you at the time of scheduling, but here are a few general guidelines:
- Please advise us of any metal implants in your body. This includes pacemakers, defibrillators, aneurysm clips, spinal cord or bone growth stimulators, cochlear implants, implantable pumps or insulin monitoring systems. Most implants are MRI safe, but require additional consideration before the exam.
- Do not wear any metal accessories such as jewelry, hairpins, watches, etc.
- Do not bring unnecessary personal items such as pocket knives, ankle weights, excessive change, or chargers.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing. If possible, please choose clothing items without buttons, zippers, or snaps.
